I'm sure the tradition of Rose Parade and Rose Bowl are the issue.

But yesterday we had 3 game time slots. There isn't any reason that the east coast Semifinal could be played before the Rose Bowl and the west coast Semifinal played after the Rose Bowl on the same day.

The Rose Bowl would not need to move its time slot. But they are insisting on being the "Grandaddy of them all." on New Years Day with minimal competition. So they push the playoff to another day to accommodate. Hopefully it will get changed. The same viewers will watch all three games on NYD.

The Rose Parade will overlap the first game, but the parade has a different audience entirely.
